Weddings Go Green
Among many other things, I'm a hopeless book hoarder, so I'll maintain an ongoing wedding booklist, some with my reviews that I hope you'll enjoy.
One of the ongoing wedding trends is the "green" wedding. Now there are lots of great ideas on the subject, you could go all out with it, or you could simply pick a gesture that represents you as a couple, and it also adds a modern touch.
Ask your reception site about their "green" policies, you might be surprised how much they already do. If it's a big part of who you are and in your plan, you could mention all in your program, For example: " We used only recycled paper products and green ____ in the preparation of this special day, our centerpieces will be replanted and we're so pleased to say that the people at Swell Cottage Resort gladly recycle _____ and use earth friendly _____."
That sort of thing will add to your wonderful earth-hugging theme!
I'm pouring through my copy of the Green Bride Guide, by Kate Harrison, a Yale grad I might add. Anyway I'm so pleased that she mentions - and approves - of dress renting! All those miles of tulle and fabric and love seeing happiness over an over, that's hugging the earth with satin if you ask me.
If you're avoiding fresh flowers, I've been on a quest for the perfect silk cascade bridal bouquet but I needed the validation on that one as a green option - they're not your 80's flowers anymore! One hesitation, she mentions dried flowers, my protectiveness of the dresses is that they can be messy, fragile and can snag. I'll squeak open my mind and read further but I say definitely for the centerpieces however.
Go ahead, as she says "Say I Do and Save the Planet". Plus, you can reduce your "wedding footprint" more by Renting Your Dress! Contact me :) Linda
